Dawlish Care Home – Sefton Hall
Sefton Hall is an impressive Georgian building with an interesting history of serving the local community over the years. It is only a few hundred yards from Dawlish town centre and the famous seafront.
Sefton Hall has an elegant atmosphere, with many of the rooms being exceptionally light and airy with full height windows, overlooking the grounds. There are three spacious lounges and a large dining room, together with a suite of rooms that are especially for our Cedar dementia community.
Sefton Hall has achieved an ‘Outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The purpose of the CQC is to make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and they encourage care services to improve. We received some lovely comments in the report, including: “People told us they were happy living at the Home”, “people told us that staff were kind and caring”, “we heard lots of laughter and affection between staff and people throughout the inspection”.
Sefton Hall also holds the Certificate of Recognition from the Eden Alternative UK & Ireland, which recognises that the residents and the team at Sefton Hall are well established on the Eden Alternative journey and have fulfilled the requirements for inclusion in the Eden Alternative philosophy, developing strategies to address potential problems of loneliness, helplessness and boredom.
Sefton Hall has won numerous awards including the Memory Lane award, Gold Award for Team of Excellence and the Silver Award for Innovation at the 2019 Outstanding Care Awards for Devon & Cornwall as well the the award for Best Care Home at the National Care Awards 2019. Sefton Hall also holds the Butterfly Kitemark National Award from Dementia Care Matters. The Butterfly Model is based on how ‘feelings matter most’ in dementia care. We are very proud of this award and the team has worked very hard to achieve this. We received some excellent comments from the audit including “Warm, loving relationships between staff and people who live here”, and “several staff are ‘stars’ – an abundance of energy, passion and patience in their work here”.

LATEST NEWS MAY 2020
Sefton Hall has copied the concept of drive-through restaurants to reunite loved ones during the coronavirus crisis.
During lockdown regular visits haven’t been allowed at our home.
But through careful planning – including use of PPE, time-slots and separate stations – families were, for one day, able to see residents from the safety of their cars after eight weeks apart.
Comments from the Home Manager, “I have seen crying, I have seen people smiling. It was really beneficial for them, they needed that, everybody needed that.”
