Care home celebrates two decades of care with family fun day

Live music and a sizzling barbecue welcomed visitors to a Seaton care home’s 21st anniversary celebrations.

The Seaton hosted the family fun day to mark more than two decades since they joined the Southern Healthcare Group, who own four award-winning care homes across Devon.

Southern Healthcare’s managing director, Geoffrey Cox commented: “I’m really proud of the care home The Seaton is – it’s down to the professionalism and compassion of our incredible care team, who strive to ensure our residents live a life of purpose, meaning and belonging in a homely environment.”

Care home residents, team members and family members celebrated the milestone anniversary with food, entertainment from 50s and 60s cover singer Neill Tully of Quite Frankly, and charity stalls.

The care home’s administration manager, Kelly Boweren, has worked for Southern Healthcare at The Seaton for more than 20 years. She said the key to the care home’s success was down to the care team’s friendships, their ‘sense of humour’ and their kindness.

Will Barnes came to work at the care home as a carer for six months and stayed for nine years. Now a trainee lawyer, Will says it’s helped him see the world differently.

Whilst enjoying the celebrations, he reflected: “Working at The Seaton changed my whole attitude towards care and towards older generations – for life.” He added: “I think everyone should work in a care home because it teaches you care and compassion.”

The Seaton is rated Outstanding, and they have earned some of the highest accolades for their care through Meaningful Care Matters and The Eden Alternative evaluations.

Southern Healthcare has been named national Care Employer of the Year twice and their leadership team has also been recognised for excellence with The Seaton’s care home manager Emma Seal and the group’s director of nursing, Margot Whittaker, receiving the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse.
