An East Devon nursing home has received an excellent rating from a highly regarded organisation which specialises in auditing care providers.
The Seaton, a Southern Healthcare nursing home, received praise for their ‘highly engaged and emotion-focused model of care’ from Meaningful Care Matters auditors who were assessing the care home’s Dragonfly programme.
Meaningful Care Matters (MCM) auditors said the East Devon Nursing home demonstrated ‘strong person-centered approaches with meaningful engagement’ and awarded it a Level 2, Excellent rating.
The auditors Sally Knocker and Beccy Mullins said: “The nursing home continues to deliver care of an excellent standard with meaningful engagement, emotional connection and person-centred practices at the heart of daily life.”
Established in 2019, MCM aims to change the culture of care by ensuring people have purpose, are empowered to be themselves and have meaningful relationships within their care setting.
MCM rate care providers on care delivery, individual care plans (including the restricted use of medication) and the meaningful relationships between staff and residents. Those dementia care providers, who demonstrate a high number of meaningful interactions against a long list of criteria, are awarded the status of a ‘Dragonfly’ Home.
Sally went on to say: “From the moment you arrive, The Seaton conveys a warm, homelike atmosphere. The environment with its many hallways and inviting common areas, mirrors the comfort and character of a family home. It feels like home.”

Auditors also praised the teams’ deep level of relationship and understanding of the people they support at the East Devon nursing home, and the ability of the team to share genuine connections with each other and the people they support.
Geoffrey Cox, the managing director of Southern Healthcare, said: “A Level 2, Excellent rating from Meaningful Care Matters is a fantastic outcome, which truly reflect the skills and knowledge of the people in our team, their compassion, heart, and meaningful connection to the people they are caring for. I’m thrilled the auditor picked up on the home’s wonderful, loving environment and the teams’ deep connection to each other and the people they support.”
Southern Healthcare was also awarded ‘outstanding’ ratings for its homes in Dawlish and Plymouth and an ‘excellent’ rating for its home in Exeter.
